All is going well in Winston. I started back on my rotations but really light rotations right now (15-20 hrs a week). Next month we will be in Charlotte and I'm rotating with a family doc there. It will be nice to be close to family for the month and Rich won't have to commute. Little Piper is so fun these days - she has cut out her middle of the night feed so she goes down around 7pm - we get her up to feed when we go to bed at 10:30/11 then she sleeps until 6 or 7. We had our 2 month checkup monday - 80% for length, 75% for weight (11lb 12oz). Still a big girl but she has dropped from her 90s percentiles at her 2 week check.

Still has the red hair! We are hoping it stays - the name Piper just fits a little red headed girl.

Moments before she broke out of the swaddle... we have now transitioned to the sleep sack and she flails her arms about until she finally settles in to sleep.

Still loving her baths... we would drag them out longer than 10 mintues if it weren't so uncomfortable for us to bend over the bathtub for that long.

She might end up being a thumb sucker... so far she just shoves most of her fist in her mouth.. to the point where she gags herself sometimes.

Loves the camera... it is sometimes a little creepy to wake up in the middle of the night, check the monitor, and find her starring at the monitor camera. There is a little light on the front of it that I think she likes to look at.

As I was doing the dishes this morning had to laugh at what our dishwasher contents consist of: coffee cups, bottles, and breast pump parts. Oh how are lives have changed.

First 2 weeks

I went into labor late Friday night and the whole Buchanan clan came up (even Amy all the way from Atlanta) early Saturday morning and hung out with us during the "good hours" when my epidural was working and labor seemed like a piece a cake. Though as back labor set in and the epidural started to fade on my right side, I hinted that they all might want to hang out at the house and escape my wrath. Then it was just Rich who had to deal with my unpleasantness for the rest of the labor until the doc decided to do a section. A few pics of Piper getting to meet the Buchanan clan....

Uncle BB with Piper. He's really not that disinterested in Piper... I think (or hope) he was taking a picture of her at the time. Stephen was kind enough to stay at our house with Autzen while we were at the hospital - even letting Auttie sleep in the bed with him.

Aunt Mazy and Piper. Amy is quite the Swaddle Master.... something neither Rich or I are really quite good at yet. Piper is quite the wiggler and breaks free easily. It has become a running competition at whose swaddle can last the longest after we put her to bed. We look forward to Amy's next visit so she can teach us her magic in getting it so snug.

The Jones clan. Andie loves to "hold" Piper and give her kisses as all of us hover over her coaching her "gentle Andie," "be careful with her head," "not on the lips..." but she is actually quite good with her. Can't wait for Piper to get a little older and play with her cousins.

The family member that has probably had the hardest time with the new addition is Autzen. He has known something has been up for awhile... Before Piper was born, I would always find him wandering into the baby's room staring and nudging at her stuffed animals on the bookshelf, not understanding that those weren't his toys. Since Piper has been home it seems that he has grown up overnight changing from the rambunctious 1 year old puppy to a mellow, sweet dog. He is very curious about Piper ... wandering into her room and watching her in her crib or peeking his nose into the moses basket when she is crying. He does seem to also be a little jealous of all the attention she gets and has been trying to get in on some of it....
While not previously allowed on the sofa he has demanded to get up there when I am nursing and join in on the cuddle-fest.

But the best was when we found him here..... in Piper's moses basket.

Piper's favorite napping place is on your chest. I like skin on skin but Rich must wear a shirt or she gets frustrated and cranky with his hairy chest...

And she loves bathtime - especially when it is time to wash her hair.

Many thanks to all our friends and family for all their well wishes and gifts for Piper. We are loving every minute with her and can't wait for what lies ahead...

Introducing Piper Doerfler

Piper Susan Doerfler was born on Sunday morning, 8/21/2011. Weighing in at a healthy 8 lbs 13 ounces, 21". We are so excited she is finally here!
